My two-tone, or “zebra-stripe” vessels, require much more time and patience than the
other laminated works. The work is limited by the “open time” of the gluing process.
As few as 8 to 10 layers of veneers may be glued in one session. The work must then be
clamped/compressed, dry, de-clamped, and cleaned of excess glue before the next session
can proceed. It takes a minimum of 6 up to 12 glue sessions to complete the laminated block.
Therefore, the pieces are priced significantly higher than others of comparable size and style.
To me the resulting product is a much more formal form.
